 As part of the HSE team at MRCG at LSHTM, I have initiated and successfully implemented various projects geared towards the improvement of HSE Biorisk management systems, developed a Unit wide database of microorganisms, developed posters, Standard Operating Procedures, Code of Practices, conducted Unit wide laboratory inspections and trained hundreds staff on various health and safety subjects.

    

Work Experience

Health and Safety Advisor - Biological  •  Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at LSHTM

June 2020 - October 2021

Developed policies, SOPs and CoPs on infection control, chemical purchase and management, waste management and transport of gas cylinders.
Conducted Unit wide laboratory inspections and audits, written reports and followed up to ensure improvements in HSE.
Trained and advised hundreds of staff members on matters relating to biological health and safety, including purchase, use, storage, transportation and disposal of biological agents
Developed a poster and trained staff across the Unit in the management of the Unit's biological waste.
Identified all the invalid risk assessments, worked with scientists to review them and uploaded them on SharePoint for easy access and also updated the department's risk assessment database.
Assist in seeking consent and ensuring compliance with safety policies in dealing with class 2 and above biological agents.

Teacher (Chemistry, and Science)  •  SBEC International School

Developed subject curricula, teaching materials/aids and taught Chemistry (Form 6) and Science (Form 3) to more than 100 students.
Conducted tutorials, extra classes for students that need extra support to enhance their understanding of the subject matter
Supervised students' extracurricular activities and escorted them on various field trips.
Participated in teacher-parent meetings to discuss student performance enhancement.
