Abraham Mashinsky

Abraham Mashinsky was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Since an early age, he showed an interest towards painting. At the age of 18, Mashinsky worked as an apprentice at a theater studio, specializing in theater painting. His artistic training was, however, essentially self-taught.

The paintings he creates reflect the post-impressionist context of his work. In his work he articulates a plastic investigation around chromatic complementarity and luminosity, central issues in the development of his work.

Later, Mashinsky defined his style using a pictorial technique in which that colors and tones are not mixed in the palette, but are applied directly to the support, in small juxtaposed strokes, creating a visual effect of greater luminosity and brightness. This gives the canvas a more vibrant texture, inducing the idea of movement.

These works reveal Mashinsky’s interest in the creation of a pictorial language based on chromatic contrast. This language is enunciated by neo-impressionist painting, and he deepens with the study of theories on the behavior of color. On the other hand, the representation of the solar disk indicates the future use of colored circles, used as the main structuring element, formally and symbolically, of his compositions.

In the 2012 Abraham Mashinsky resumed abstractionist painting, in large compositions in which the circular shapes reappear.

Abraham Mashinsky received his Bachelor's of Art Degree from the Rutgers University.
