Amsalu Bizuneh

 Hospitalist and Documentary Film Producer

As a lead clinical hospitalist with Charlotte, North Carolina's Novant Health, Dr. Amsalu Bizuneh draws upon more than seven years of medical experience in leading the hospital's delivery of patient care. In addition to concentrating on medical areas such as hematology, infectious disease, and gastroenterology, Dr. Amsalu Bizuneh has a particular interest in the treatment of bipolar disorder. He is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and Ethiopian Professionals of America. 


An avid runner, Dr. Amsalu Bizuneh wrote and produced the documentary film Born to Run: A Tale of Endurance before joining Novant Health. Directed by Zach Starr, the film follows numerous athletes as they prepare for and compete in the 2007 Men's U.S. Olympic Marathon trials. 


Dr. Amsalu Bizuneh's work on the film was preceded by a three-year internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center. He earned his doctor of medicine from Emory University School of Medicine and received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Butler University, where he was a GTE Academic All-American and Gallahue Endowment Academic Grant recipient. Beyond his professional pursuits, he is a fan of Ethiopian soccer and the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association.
