Angela Spirou

Co-Patent-Holder for Modified Letter Comparison Task

A research data coordinator at the Kessler Foundation, Angela Spirou develops healthcare solutions to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. Angela Spirou and her colleagues successfully applied for a patent through the Kessler Foundation for a Modified Letter Comparison Task, a processing speed task applied to the MRI. The technology utilizes the average processing speed time of the patient to create trials at varied rates relative to the average, allowing for the trials to have a cognitive load specific for each patient.

Angela Spirou regularly presents finding from her research at healthcare conferences and events. For instance, in 2020, she and her colleagues presented on “Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuation (ALFF) Response Interaction with Learning during Feedback in Individuals with MS & Healthy Controls” at the annual meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping.

Ms. Spirou prepared for her career by earning a bachelor of science in biology from Ursinus College and completing the post-baccalaureate re-specialization track in psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She later obtained a master of arts in experimental psychology from Montclair State University, where her master’s thesis centered on how traumatic brain injury relates to striatal activity, motivational deficits, and depressive symptomatology. Most recently, she received data science certification from Rutgers University in 2019, gaining programming & scripting skills for various platforms.
