Chih-En Chou (周至恩)

I have four-year experience as a theoretical physicist in the Leung Center for Cosmology and Particle Astrophysics in National Taiwan University. Now, I have a passion for anything about programming and algorithms, especially for signal processing, machine learning and data analysis.

Education

2018 - 2021

National Taiwan University

Master of Science in Physics

2014 - 2018

National Taiwan University

Bachelor of Science in Physics

Working Experience

Research Assistant  •  National Taiwan University

Theoretical physics researcher in the Analog Black Hole Evaporation via Lasers Group. My research was to make a theoretical prediction of the analog Hawking radiation spectrum. Eventually, the spectrum was computed by Fourier transformation and Bogoliubov transformation. See the paper: https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.103.025014

Experience in Online Courses

Object-Oriented Data Structures in C++ •  Coursera (with certificate)

Instructor: Wade Fagen-Ulmschneider (The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)

I learned how to implement data structures such as linked lists and binary trees as C++ classes.

Digital Signal Processing 1 & 2  •  Coursera (with certificate)

Instructor: Paolo Prandoni and Martin Vetterli (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne)

I learned how to analyze discrete-time signal and how to manipulate signals with filters by Python.

Machine Learning  •  Coursera

Instructor: Andrew Ng (Stanford University)

I learned the basic concepts and algorithms of machine learning in this course.

Leadership Experience

Director  •  NTU Rock Club

I managed all the departments in NTU rock club, which comprised hundreds of members.

Projects

Animal Call Counter  •  Personal side project

Inspired by the challenge 3 on Unlocked with Z - Laptops and Desktops for Data Science and Analysis | HP® Official Site, I built a simple CNN classifier to count the number of Capuchin bird calls in given audio files.

Audio Denoiser  •  Personal side project

First, the short time Fourier transform was applied to the clean audio and noisy audio. Then, the spectrograms were fed to the deep convolutional neural networks to do the regression. It's an ongoing project, where the optimization of the CNN model and a new model based on speech enhancement generative adversarial network (SEGAN) will be presented in the future.
