The recipient of a bachelor's in civil engineering from Southwestern College, Charles Scharf founded Erosion Specialists in Barrington, IL, in 1982. For the past 35 years, Charles Scharf's company has completed drainage system and erosion-control projects throughout Barrington, IL, and surrounding communities, including the stabilization of a 1,000-lineal-foot portion of the DuPage River's north branch.


Other projects completed by the company include designing structural retaining walls and building a 128,000-foot water retention lake complete with spillway pads and storm inlets. The company owns all of the equipment used to complete its projects and has had a steady annual workload throughout its existence.


Mr. Scharf is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and, outside of his responsibilities with Erosion Specialists, he enjoys building homes. He's currently building a home in Arizona, where he enjoys driving his collection of off-road vehicles. Additionally, he remains active by participating in various outdoor sports and plays basketball whenever possible. For the past 30 years, he has donated to the Boys Town Home for Orphaned Children.
