Job Description

PayPay is looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to join the team. This person will play a key role in the infrastructure organization helping to grow and lead an Engineering team supporting the major technology platforms that power PayPay. At the core of PayPay lies infrastructure and applications running on top of it. Managing risks associated with them and providing our customers and developers with seamless experience is a constant challenge. To keep up our growing product and future expansion we are expanding our SRE group and are looking for an Engineering Manager with experience and passion to help lead us to the next stage. This is a technical management role that offers you an excellent opportunity to foster a reliability culture and create solutions to guarantee a reliable, robust and cost efficient platform that powers payments for over 57 million people in Japan. Our number of users and transactions are increasing day by day since our first product release. The platform must be capable to scale-out to match this growth whilst maintaining security, reliability and increased productivity of our developer teams. Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure the system has enough capacity in light of short-term and long-term growth through the activities such as capacity planning and load testing.
  • Ensure a robustness of microservice system using a various technologies for stability, and achieve goals of SLA/SLO and other metrics.
  • Analyze and learn from incidents and failures, and reflect them to system stability and scalability.
  • Manage a team of engineers responsible for the timely and quality delivery of a given product or project.
  • Lead the team in its daily tasks, prioritize them, and make decisions based on changing business priorities.
  • Structure and facilitate the team’s workflow and development process.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders across the company to understand their requirements and translate them into the team's technical requirements.
  • Fosters the team’s evolution and it’s member’s growth, including, but not limited to, 1:1s and performance evaluation
  • Plan for future resources requirements and collaborate with the hiring efforts

    Requirements

    Qualifications 

    • Professional experience in a technical management or leadership role.
    • Have a technical mindset and understand complex systems design.
    • Have an extreme bias towards action. Basically, have the “Get Things Done” type of attitude.
    • Be solutions oriented.
    • Be able to maintain high-performance within a high-energy and fast-paced work environment.
    • Have excellent oral, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Bilingual in English and Japanese is nice to have, but not required. Proficiency in either language is fine.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Business level Japanese
    • Kubernetes or AWS certification
    • Experience working on a large-scale web service infrastructure.

      • Annual salary paid in 12 installments (monthly)
