Databases form the backbone of internet services and must scale with our growth while being highly reliable. You will join a growing database team to improve and scale our relational databases and plan for disaster recovery. You will collaborate with various backend teams to ensure the efficient use of data storage. Your work will directly improve the user experience of millions of people around the world. You should have extensive experience developing and operating distributed and highly-available systems.
What you will do
- Support backend team's database needs (schema changes, indexes)
- Create, migrate and split shards
- Improve alerting, failovers and backups (hot and cold)
- Automate, deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot critical database systems
- Participate in rotating on-call duties in a global, 24x7x365, team
- Expert on relational databases (MySQL, Oracle DB)
- Software engineering experience with production systems (Python, PHP)
- Experienced with Linux and automation (Ansible, Puppet)
- Bonus: worked with cold storage and tape backups
