About the role

At Proton, we use machine learning in our efforts to combat abuse and spam. In order to meet the demands of scale, we approach machine learning challenges from a system engineering standpoint, pushing the boundaries of scalable computing, tying together numerous data sources to build models that protect our users and reputation. We are seeking an ML Engineer to join our team and help advance our detection capabilities.

What you will do

• Develop and deploy highly scalable classifiers and tools leveraging machine learning, regression, and rule-based models;
• Creation of tools to help in model building, debugging, and explanation;
• Ensuring the above models meet expected performance levels;
• Adapt standard machine learning methods to best exploit modern parallel environments (e.g. distributed clusters);
• Suggest, collect and synthesize requirements and create effective roadmaps;
• Consistently advance the state of ML for your problem area; and
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, engage with other engineers, analysts, and customer support.
  

• MS degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field with experience in machine learning related work or research, or PhD degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field;
• Research and/or work experience in machine learning, pattern recognition, signal processing, data mining, artificial intelligence, or information retrieval;
• Solid knowledge of statistics;
• Expert knowledge developing production level ML products;
• Strong software engineering skills;
• Expert knowledge of Python;
• Experience of demonstrating technical leadership working with teams, owning projects, and defining and setting technical direction for projects

Bonus points for

• Experience in anti-abuse or spam detection
