Senior Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin back-end 100% hands-on) Part time

Our Senior Software Engineers focus on building financial claim management platform and robotic process automation, with a scalable architecture optimized for performance.

Reporting Structure: this position will report to VP of Engineering

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with product, design and a team of engineers across multiple platforms to release features and run experiments.
  • Design, architect and build distributed, scalable backend services together with other backend engineers in the team.
  • Drive collaboration between backend and frontend engineers in the team to scope and plan for features and experiments.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other Senior Engineers in the organization, getting alignment and buy-in to propose changes to other areas of our systems where necessary.
  • Mentor junior backend engineers in the team and organization, imparting technical knowledge, industry best practices and leadership skills.
  • Propose changes to existing processes, that will improve the quality of our codebases and systems, clear out technical debt and improve our developer productivity.
  • Acquire domain knowledge relevant to the verticals, and use this knowledge coupled with technical expertise to solution and build innovative features for our users.
  • Work within technology stack (JavaScript/TypeScript, Java/Kotlin, Python, MongoDB, ElasticSearch), but push the team on new technologies and implementation methodology
  • Write clean code with clear documentation. Participate in collaborative code reviews
  • Build scalable data models and query logic
  • Build integrations with external API services (Open API providers, government sectors, commercial SaaS, analytics, CRM, social marketing, etc)

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other equivalent degrees/experience
  • at least 4 years years in Java or Kotlin software development
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Mandarin
  • Mentored and coached junior engineers effectively in their technical growth.
  • Strong English communication skills, with the ability to write good technical documentation and proposals.
  • Have experience in a role where cross-team communication was necessary or of importance.
  • Experience in building large, scalable distributed systems with good understanding of micro-services architecture and associated principles.
  • Excellent knowledge of RDBMS and object caches such as PostgreSQL, Memcached, Redis and knowledge of how to design, tune and optimize SQL queries and caching strategies
  • Experience with TDD/BDD and agile methodologies
  • Familiar with AWS and serverless architecture
  • Familiar with continuous integration & test coverage
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate well with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Embrace strong culture in continuous learning and sharing with others

Interview process

Stage 1: Prepare presentation with 2 slides

Stage 2: 30 min Fundamental Session, 15min to explain solution on critical project, 15min to share learning on latest technology, interviewed by VP of Engineering in Taipei.

Stage 3: compete the technical test in four days.

Stage 4: 30 min Technical Session, interviewed by technical expert in San Francisco.

Stage 5: 30 min Partnership Session, interviewed by co-founder in Taipei.

Stage 6: 30 min Culture Session, interviewed by CEO in San Francisco.
