Damien Hansen

Leadership Experience in the Navy and Academia

With a leadership background as an officer in the U.S. Navy and university administrator, Dr. Damien Hansen currently serves as an Office Manager with the University of San Francisco. In this role, he is responsible for events planning, budget management, campus operations, and facilities management. Damien has consistently demonstrated his leadership by taking on additional responsibilities that fall outside his job description to make major improvements to the campus and the overall student experience. Dr. Hansen coordinated and oversaw a major campus-wide IT infrastructure improvement project in which each classroom was upgraded with smart technology. Upon completion of the project, Damien developed and regularly updates a classroom technology guide. He also provides regular technology trainings for faculty. Since his arrival at USF in 2015, Damien has leveraged technology whenever possible to streamline all campus operations and create a virtually paper-free campus environment.

From 2009 to 2015, Dr. Hansen was employed with the U.S. Navy as an Operations and Administration Department Head and Air Wing Instructor. Based at the Naval Strike & Air Warfare Center in Nevada, he undertook the training and evaluation of air intelligence officers in a variety of graduate-level disciplines, including battle management, tactics, and combined strike warfare intelligence analysis. As Administration Department Head for three years, LT Damien Hansen was Officer-In-Charge of seven air wing detachments and oversaw a budget of approximately $600,000. This position built on five years of previous experience as an Operations Team Leader and Intelligence Analyst assigned to the Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Intelligence Unit 0419. In this role, LT Hansen was tasked with delivering timely intelligence products and briefing senior officers to promote maritime stability and security across the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. LT Hansen was also called upon to engage with U.S. Harbor Defense Task Group Korea in support of joint exercises as a Navy liaison and Intelligence Analyst in Busan, Korea.

During his years in the military, LT Damien Hansen also served on the US Navy’s Funeral Honor Detail Team and was assigned to the Navy Operational Support Command in Alameda, California. As Officer In Charge, LT Hansen spoke at funerals and memorials across nine counties in the San Francisco Bay Area and presented the ceremonial American flag to the families of fallen veterans. In this capacity, Damien mentored nine enlisted personnel and executed an impressive 1,320 hours of training for members of the Funeral Honor Detail Team. Damien participated in 331 flag-folding ceremonies and had a knack for connecting with families in a genuine and professional manner. He was recognized on several occasions in writing from grateful families who deeply appreciated his heartfelt delivery and caring demeanor during one of the most difficult times of their lives. As a respected leader, LT Damien Hansen was often requested by name to provide funeral honor services for fallen service members, including several local dignitaries.

For his unrelenting commitment to duty and sustained meritorious service, Damien Hansen was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in 2013.
