Head Of Technology
Zorlu Ventures, February 2018 - Present
Zorlu Ventures is the US Corporate VC and development arm of the Zorlu Group of companies, one of Turkey's largest industrial conglomerates. Zorlu Group companies include Vestel - the largest white goods and third largest TV manufacturer in Europe, Zorlu Energy which owns production and distribution assets and Turkey and throughout the middle east and Zorlu Textiles which is the largest thread and cotton fabric manufacturer in Europe.

Consultant
3 Hands Consulting, July 2017 - Present
Hands-on consulting in the lighting, energy, and semiconductor storage spaces. Clients to date include Design Lights Consortium (DLC), Energy Solutions, Autani, Foreverlamp, Lunera, Trendfocus. My current focus is on the transition happening with Bluetooth Mesh - it has the potential to transform the lighting controls market from its current proprietary mess into an interoperable future and with that drive controls costs down and penetration to ubiquity.

Chief Technical Officer, Chief Product Officer
Lunera, March 2012 - July 2017
When I joined, Lunera Lighting was a turn-around with two struggling product lines - an LED fixture business and a custom lighting business with Apple's retail stores. Neither of these supported the exit our investors desired nor were they sustaining on their own accord. We scoped, developed and launched the first type-A LED lamp - called the Helen lamp. Rather than requiring an electrician and rewiring, these allowed an end user to simply remove the fluorescent lamp in place and install the LED lamp - gaining a 50% power reduction and 2-5x increase in lifespan.

Co-Founder
TV Anytime, October 2010 - January 2012
TV Anytime was the first DVR for Streaming Video - allowing you to record streaming video (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) on your Windows PC and watch it offline and download it to your iPhone, iPad and Android device. TV Anytime was released for iTunes (iOS), Android Marketplace and on CNET (PC) in Q4/11.

Senior Director Of Strategy
SanDisk, December 2009-March 2011
The NAND Market was undergoing a transition from primarily retail NAND product sales of cards to primarily OEM sales of embedded products. My role was to develop & implement a strategy to drive SanDisk's multi-billion dollar OEM division from 30% to 65% of sales, ensuring the right mix of product and customer sales such that margin and revenue stability could be balanced through market cycles

Director Of Market Development
Nanosys, Inc., November 2006-March 2008
Lead Nanosys' business development activities related to Flash Memory, LED Lighting and Methanol Fuel Cells. For LED, Nanosys developed a quantum-dot phosphor that down-converts blue LEDs to arbitrary colors with high accuracy and efficiency. This forms the basis of Samsung's QLED television line launched in 2017.

Director of NAND Marketing
Samsung Electronics, January 2005-November 2006
Managed NAND Flash Product Marketing for Samsung Semiconductor; responsible for revenue management, product sales, channel strategy and key customer engagements including Apple & SanDisk for a $2.7B annual budget.

Patents

Don Barnetson holds 24 patents, including:

  • LED retrofit lamp with a strike barrier: A strike barrier for use in an LED retrofit lamp is provided. The present invention provides the strike barrier with two silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) whose input is connected to a bridge rectifier and output is connected to a string of LED through a Zener diode.
  • Horizontal LED lamp
  • Retrofit LED lighting system for the replacement of fluorescent lamp: A retrofit light emitting diode (LED) lamp is provided for replacement of ballast driven fluorescent lamps. The retrofit LED lamp comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes. The plurality of light emitting diodes is mounted on a metal core printed circuit board (MCPCB).
  • LED lamp
  • Retrofit LED lighting system for the replacement of fluorescent lamp: A LED retrofit lamp for replacement of fluorescent lamp or tube driven by fluorescent ballast is provided. The retrofit lamp is compatible with the fluorescent ballast that requires the presence of a barrier for striking an arc voltage.
