Based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Dr. Alejandro Herrera has several decades of experience in civil aviation and aeronautical law. From 2011 to 2020, he served as director general of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC). Under Dr. Herrera’s leadership, the IDAC underwent a rigorous evaluation in order to receive certifications in quality standards such as ISO 14001, which relates to environmental management systems, and 45001, which covers health and safety in the workplace.
In addition to his leadership role with the IDAC, Dr. Herrera has achieved success as a writer. The author of the book With One Foot in Each Century, he has contributed as a guest columnist to various newspapers over the past 25 years, in addition to co-producing several television and radio programs in the Dominican Republic. He also wrote La Gesta Restauradora, which earned first place in the Secondary Literary Contest.
Dr. Herrera holds a doctor of law from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, and completed post-graduate studies in history and geography of the Caribbean at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo. A distinguished graduate of the Pedro Henriquez Urena National University, he holds a specialty in judicial studies. He also has a master of arts in government and public administration from the Complutense University of Madrid and the Catholic University of Santo Domingo.
