WORK EXPERIENCE

 NOVARTIS PHARMACEUTICALS, SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA
 Cluster Medical Head, East Africa
 (July 2019-Present)
  • Leading a medical affairs team of 18, comprising of 5 medical advisors and 13 medical science liaisons across 6 East African countries which include Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. The market size consists of 300 million people with unique health systems and reimbursement models.
  • Responsible for diverse therapy areas and portfolios in ophthalmology, neuroscience, cardio-metabolic, oncology and communicable diseases. 
  • Provide strategic guidance to the medical affairs team along our 3 priority areas which include data dissemination, data generation and stakeholder management. 
  • Spearhead our launch excellence agenda with innovative pre-launch medical activities and stakeholder engagements. Objective is to gather early insights, communicate portfolio value, map the patient journey and shape organizational strategy.
  • Advocate for scientific expertise within the medical affairs team through trainings to facilitate peer to peer relationships with the healthcare community. 
  • Establish partnerships with like minded entities to develop synergies which can help improve access to treatment, mitigate gaps within the patient journey and optimize the health systems.
  • Reinforce our compliance and governance principles around engagement of stakeholders, scientific activities and external funding. 
  • Present value-based and beyond-the-pill solutions to our payor communities in order to highlight the long term benefits in quality of life of our innovations.

Medical Advisor -Ophthalmology and Immuno-hepato-dermatology ( IHD )
(September 2016-June 2019)

Covering three large countries i.e. Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia with a total population of around 200 million people. The portfolio is quite diverse with 20 plus products under the franchise. Directly responsible for 4 medical science liaisons (MSLs) across the various countries.

PROJECTS MOST PROUD OF

INTERLIFE- 'A new beginning for patients with renal failure'

Project between Novartis and Kenyatta National Hospital, which is the largest referral hospital in Kenya with the aim of building capacity of the local physicians (Nephrologists, Transplant Surgeons and Renal nurses) with the objective of carrying out high quality kidney transplants locally. Over 200 + patients have benefited from this program and Kenyatta National hospital is now viewed as a center of excellence with regards to Kidney transplantation.


Regional ( East Africa ) Scientific standalones

Over the last 3 years. we have partnered with the local  physicians and medical societies to organize over 10 regional scientific summits bringing together over 1000 health care professionals from various specialties (Retina Glaucoma Cornea Nephrology, Urology etc.) Guest speakers were also brought in from countries such as the UK,India,Singapore, UAE, Canada etc. and the objective of this initiative was to foster knowledge sharing and experience exchange amongst the health care professionals which would translate into better patient management  

Local and International  Medical Preceptorships

Over the last couple of years we identified a gap in the expertise and exposure of our local physicians in the various therapy areas. We partnered with local and regional centers of excellence in countries such as Singapore, Egypt, India, Spain etc. to provide hands on experience to our local doctors inorder to better their skills and improve patient management.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS


Asia pacific, Middle East, Australia and Africa cluster (APMA) award 

IMPACT award presented in December 2018 for my role in the INTERLIFE project. Project selected from numerous submissions.

The project was also awarded 50000 USD due to its high impact on improving Renal Transplantation within Kenya


AFRICA cluster award


Medical award presented in 2017 for the best in class regional scientific summits.
In 2018 we came in 2nd for our innovative preceptorships that provided HCPs hands-on training in surgical skills

Best Accident and Emergency Doctor

 Voted by the hospital team at the Mater hospital as the best outpatient doctor (Accident and Emergency department) for my hard work and dedication towards the call of duty.
