Dr. Robert Crawford

Advancing the Field of Vascular Surgery

An accomplished vascular surgeon, Dr. Robert Crawford is licensed to practice in Georgia, Florida, and Texas, and he currently works as the director of medical affairs at Basis Medical and during these unprecedented times he also attends to critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. Over the course of his career in vascular surgery, Dr. Robert Crawford has contributed immensely to the field, serving in various leadership roles at top hospitals, conducting federally funded clinical research on new therapies, publishing papers, giving presentations at conferences, and chairing industry groups and committees.

Dr. Crawford earned his MD from the Medical College of Virginia in 2001 then completed additional training at Wayne State University and Harvard Medical School. He has practiced vascular surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Emory University Hospital, and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Dr. Crawford also held roles in academia, serving as an associate professor at the Emory University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine and as a research associate at the University of California, Berkeley.

Robert Crawford, MD, has co-chaired the International Relations Committee of the Society for Vascular Surgery and is a member of the Georgia Vascular Society. He has presented at numerous industry conferences and published dozens of papers in peer-reviewed vascular surgery journals, even receiving honors such as the Charles Johnston and the Deterling Awards in vascular surgery research. He continues to publish, and as recently as May 2020, his work on the the influence of opiates on complications in vascular surgery was highlighted with the Editors Choice Pick for the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
