Fred Umar

Self-Employed Composer and Professor

Frederick "Fred" Umar is a composer with more than three decades of experience conducting ensembles ranging from youth to professional choirs and orchestras. At present, Dr. Umar develops wind band and orchestral arrangements of choral works written by Kevin A. Memley and Sir John Rutter, among other artists, and has CD recordings with Azusa Pacific University, the Philadelphia Wind Symphony, and the TAD Wind Symphony in Japan. Some of his recent available works include Angels We Have Heard on High and He is Born, both of which were published by Dan Goeller Music Publishing.

In addition to his work as a composer, Frederick “Fred” Umar has served as adjunct faculty professor at Park University since 2009. In this role, he teaches online and in-person courses, including Introduction to Music and History of Systems and Psychology, through an eight-week period. He previously taught at San Diego Christian College and the University of Phoenix.

Dr. Umar's guest conducting experience includes service with the UNLV Wind Orchestra and Buffalo-Niagara Concert Band, as well as numerous high school programs around the county. He is currently attending Harvard University in pursuit of a post-doctoral Certificate in Educational Neuroscience. He previously earned several degrees, including an ED.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (Music), a M.A. in Counseling, and a M.M in Performance (Conducting).
