Why I'm Here

After a long stint working with lifestyle businesses, I'm looking to get back into the tech space and make my mark again in a more fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. I have a decade of experience working in content marketing, SEO, digital PR, email and social media and I'm looking to really stretch myself in a new role.

For several years now I've had the freedom to choose my clients, meaning I've had control over the companies and people I work with and the culture they bring. I fundamentally believe that the people you surround yourself have more impact on your work life (and personal life) than any specific technical aspect of your job. I'm looking to join a company that can offer personal and professional growth.

Skills

Content Marketing

From article placement in high-level online publications to building content designed for substantial organic traffic and conversion, I'm no stranger to delivering strong content. In fact, I'd consider it my greatest strength.

Analytics

Analyzing massive data sets and parsing that data at scale to inform crucial next steps is a vital part of online marketing, and one where I feel very comfortable. I believe that strong data combined with customer insights creates a winning combo.

SEO

My experience in SEO spans the gamut, from building organic traffic funnels from scratch for SMBs to chasing ultra-competitive keywords for Fortune 500 companies to running deep technical analysis for giant e-commerce sites.

Growth

I'm insatiably curious – for better or worse. I'm always looking for a way to improve a process, a new way to get something done, or a new channel to test. At my core, I believe there's always room for improvement and growth, and I'm constantly drawn to find out how to achieve it.

Connection

Life's too short to treat your co-workers like robots. A teammate once said, "Jimmy doesn't have work friends and church friends, he just has friends." I believe that connecting personally with the people I work with makes all the difference, especially during the tough times.

Humility

"It doesn't matter who scores, it only matters that we score." I believe office politics should be a thing of the past. I can promise a lack of ego in my work and a dedication to the greater good, not just what's going to make me look good to management or the C-suite.

Experience

SEO & Growth Marketing | Freelance                              May 2016 – Present

  • Created and deployed proprietary scoring systems to analyze internal content most in need of improvement and competitor content to emulate
  • Led in-house creative teams who helped produce and promote new organic and social content
  • Provided high-level SEO training and management of in-house content teams
  • Responsible for leading growth initiatives to increase newsletter subscribers, product purchases, and paid website members
I've had an absolute blast working with clients like One Good Thing by Jillee and Dr. Axe. With millions of visits per month, thousands of blog posts receiving traffic, and thriving online shops, the challenges have been as exciting as they are varied. Our team has produced great content, increased site speed, and put in place scalable practices for optimizing and promoting both existing content and newly produced content.

Technical SEO Consultant | Searchmetrics                 April 2019 – Sep 2019

  • Provided on-site SEO training and strategy for Zappos internal content and dev teams

  • Regularly performed deep log file analysis to ensure crawl budget was being spent as intended

  • Worked alongside Zappos internal teams to identify and deploy site changes with cross-departmental benefit

While short-lived (we relocated,) this was a great opportunity to get back into a large scale SaaS working for Searchmetrics as their onsite vendor for Zappos. This also exposed me to a new level of scale and complexity in both the website I was optimizing and the organization I was working in.
