Cardiorespiratory Synchrony Training System with Virtual Reality for Drug Cravings 

Drug abuse is getting worse these years especially in young people. Cardiorespiratory synchronization training (CRST) is as known as HRV-BF, clinically used for reducing stress and balancing the autonomic nervous system. Following by our previous work, after inducing the drug cravings, we develop the following CRST VR systemto  help the addicts have methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) to reduce their cravings. In this system, we hope to find out that there’s different progress between those who have been trained by our system and those who have not.

I graduated from the Department of Computer Science Information Engineering of National Central University in September 2021 and graduated from the department of Marine Engineering of National Taiwan Ocean University in January 2017.

In my high school life, I joined a guitar club. When we were about to organize performances, I realized that things can be achieved by a group of people who have the same goal. This really inspired me of the importance of teamwork. 

I participated in the Marine Engineering Student Association when I studied at NTOU. In the third year I was elected as the Event General Coordinator of the night activity of our department. Being able to be recommended by members of the department is of great significance to me, and it is a symbol of the ability to be recognized by my peers. However, with this experience, I was aware of how difficult it is to be a leader. Under the pressure of time, coordinating a large-scale student activity, coordinating the preparation of each activity and monitoring the progress, taking into account the cooperation and feelings of the group members... etc. This experience has deeply made me understand the importance of teamwork and the way people get along and correspond with each other.

After I obtained the necessary licences for a marine engineering internship, I joined Yang Ming Shipping as an intern and began a six-month life on the ocean. Although life at sea was special, it actually made me feel more confused about the future. In the past six months of life, the closed environment on the sea and the land has also cut off the interaction with my family, friends and society. It is true that this career can make a lot of money, but is this kind of life really what I want? After the internship, my answer is no.

After being discharged from the army, I boarded a plane and traveled to Australia for work and travel. During my time in Australia, I met some outstanding Taiwanese who were studying for masters in different fields. After careful consideration, I finally decided to return to Taiwan to apply for masters. As for why I choose information engineering, in addition to my personal interest in computers, I also see the booming trend of the entire technology industry.

Because I didn’t study the same major. It was a challenge for me to learn Data Structure, Computer Architecture and Operation System but I still got through it. After a year of preparation, I got offers from National Central University and National Cheng Kung University.

During my master life, I’ve studied Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, Neural Networks, 3D Computer Graphics, Statistical Learning, Introduction to Data Science, Computer animation and 3D game, Mixed reality: Technique and Applications, Deep Learning Computer Vision, Software Engineering Practices, Wireless communication and Network. 

I use my spare time to learn tools such as Unity3D, C#, Python, C++, Java and git...etc. Although my time to study Computer Science is not longer than those who studied CS in their undergraduate, the interest in CS gradually grows as the depth and breadth of learning increases. Being able to use the software tools and programs more and more proficiently, and efficiently complete the tasks assigned by the instructor brings me a sense of accomplishment.

The research of my master's is a collaboration with Dr. Tsai Meng Zhang from the Department of Psychiatry at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Professor Chen Chun Juan from the Department of Biomedical Engineering in NCU. Through the VR system developed by us, the subject’s GSR, ECG, EEG and other physiological information are collected and then analyzed and AI is used to learn classification. The Addiction and Relaxation System is published in the CGW journal in Taiwan.
