Kelly is an Emmy Award-winning communications leader and an expert at visual and brand communications, public relations and client management. He is a former investigative journalist and videographer and has earned over 50 international awards for his work.

-- Founded Guenther Group after leaving KING-TV, creating brand stories for clients as varied as Microsoft, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Starbucks. 

-- Launched video disruptor Shootsta in North America in 2017, landing their first 7 enterprise clients, conducting on-air and video trainings and keynote conference presentations, and managing Shootsta's North American image and creatives.

Work Experience

Guenther Group, Communications Director, Feb. 2001 ~ Present

Kelly manages Guenther Group, providing video, PR and brand strategy for leading brands, including Starbucks, Microsoft, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW Medicine, Valley Medical Center, Premera Insurance, Comcast, Vulcan, Fred Hutch Cancer Research and Seattle City Light among others. In 2019, Guenther Group was responsible for executing more than 20 projects both in the US and abroad. Duties also include public relations and spokesperson work for clients in crisis situations and strategic brand messaging and execution.

Shootsta, North America Video Specialist, Jul 2017 ~ Mar 2020

Kelly landed Shootsta’s first 7 North American clients prior to the company opening its US offices in San Diego and paving the way for the company’s multi-million-dollar growth in North America. Shootsta went from a client of Guenther Group to hiring Kelly to be the North American video expert and lead trainer, onboarding more than 30 major clients last year including HP, BHP, Uber, Salesforce and others. Duties include brand management, corporate communications thought leadership, and public speaking. Kelly conducted 7 paid seminars in 2019 on how to create professional videos using tools like smartphones. 

KING-TV, Investigative Producer, Jan 1999 ~ Dec 2000

Managed the investigative unit of the NBC affiliate KING-TV. Responsible for more than 30 award-winning high-profile investigations that sometimes took months to execute and lead to Emmy-nominated journalism work. Responsible for all work generated by the investigative unit. Advised newsroom managers on legal risk of certain stories.

Northwest Cable News, Investigative / Political Reporter Aug 1995 ~ Aug 1999

Emmy-Award-winning journalist and videographer covering three main areas - politics, the environment and investigations. In this role, Kelly served as reporter, videographer and researcher. As  senior reporter, Kelly was assigned the most complicated stories and series, including Department of Defense fraud, the political and environmental arguments for breaching the Snake River dams, radioactive groundwater contamination at Hanford and the ASARCO company’s failure to clean up poisoned lands. Kelly earned Northwest Cable News’s first Emmy Award and multiple other Emmy nominations.

O'Neill & Company , Communications Director, Apr 1991 ~ Feb 1995

Managed PR and communications campaigns and served as lobbyist for this environmental and public policy firm. Served as spokesperson for multiple clients dealing with utilities, recycling programs, solid waste issues, and Seattle’s Third Runway. Executed visual brand campaigns and shaped messaging in addition to lobbying the state legislatures of Washington and Oregon. Earned multiple advertising, public relations and communications awards.
