Kelly Stewart Maer

Public Affairs Director at Capital Health System 

The recipient of a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from the University of South Carolina, Kelly Stewart Maer obtained a master’s degree in the subject at Rowan University in 1996, after which she served as a spokesperson for New Jersey Transit. Kelly Stewart Maer subsequently worked as a manager of government affairs at Cablevision and later held finance director roles for the Senate Democratic Majority PAC in New Jersey and the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.

From 2005 to 2012, Kelly Maer worked as an operations director and media spokesperson at Gateway Government and Public Affairs. As such, she coordinated with key policymakers to further state and federal grassroots advocacy efforts. Among other accomplishments, she led efforts to pass a federal bill on sustainable energy and brought in more than $1.5 million in additional revenue for the consultancy firm via conceptualizing and launching the New Jersey Economic Development Marketing section of Forbes Magazine.

Kelly Maer then worked four years as a senior director of government affairs at a national law firm and, since 2016, has served as the director of state and federal public affairs at Capital Health System. Here, she helps advocate for our most vulnerable populations and helped establish Capital Health’s centers of excellence and national accreditations. She has also performed extensive financial analysis and legislative and regulatory work to facilitate an annual revenue increase of more than $26 million over a three-year period.

Throughout her career she has served numerous roles on boards such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County CASA Mercer County, Rutger's Eagleton's CAWP, Advocate KIDS with disabilities, Women Political Caucus of NJ that advocate for advancing equality, social justice, and advancing women and minorities into leadership positions.
