Dr. Lydia Bazzano - New Orleans Health Researcher and Epidemiologist


Nutritional epidemiologist, clinical researcher, and physician Dr. Lydia Bazzano began her post-secondary education at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. While earning her undergraduate degree in ecology and environmental biology she distinguished herself academically, being granted the Fred R. Cagle Memorial Award in Biology as well as earning induction to the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. Graduating Summa Cum Laude, Dr. Lydia Bazzano simultaneously pursued an MD at Tulane School of Medicine and a PhD in epidemiology and a masters in public health from Tulane University. While earning her MD, PhD, and MPH she earned multiple awards for her research and academic performance. 

Dr. Bazzano then moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center associated with Harvard School of Medicine. She returned to Louisiana in 2005 to serve as an assistant professor of epidemiology and clinical assistant professor of medicine at her alma mater. She earned tenure in 2012 and currently serves as the director of the Center for Lifespan Epidemiology Research and holds the Lynda B. and H. Leighton Steward Professorship in Nutrition Research. Since 2007, she has also served as an adjunct assistant professor at the LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Alongside her work in academia, Dr. Lydia Bazzano practices medicine as a staff physician in the Ochsner Medical Center Internal Medicine Department.
