Entrepreneur Carl Byington has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of PHM Design, LLC, in Ellijay, Georgia, since 2017. In this position, he oversees all of the firm’s engineering consulting processes, which primarily involve the design of prognostics and health management systems, as well as the implementation of Condition-based Maintenance for critical assets. He previously served in a similar role for over a decade at Impact Technologies, LLC, where he was Director of Systems Engineering. During his time at Impact Technologies, Carl Byington acted as Principal Investigator for more than 70 programs, including numerous programs of the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force. The successful sale of Impact Technologies to Sikorsky Aircraft Company led to Carl applying his acumen to those helicopter assets and other fixed wing platforms with Lockheed Martin. Carl Byington obtained a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from The George Washington University JIAFS program at NASA Langley Research Center. Carl continued some of his graduate studies while working full time at The Pennsylvania State University. Over the course of his career as a business leader and engineer, he has maintained membership in several professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, and the PHM Society. He served many roles in these organizations including Board of Director, Conference Chairman, Keynote Speaker and special session Instructor on numerous occasions.

He has received numerous awards including Best Paper Awards at AHS, MFPT, and IEEE conference events. He is also coauthor on 10 US awarded or pending patents related to predictive monitoring technologies. Carl Byington's and his partners' efforts led to a successful acquisition of the company by Sikorsky Aircraft, a United Technologies Company.
