The origins of massage therapy originate from an ancient Indian and Hindu medicine, which themselves were long before they were widely developed, before becoming an well-established Western health and medical practice. The history of massage therapies goes back to around 3000 BCE (earlier) in India in the time when it was thought to be a sacred natural system of healing. According to the legend, Lord Buddha once administered a massage to King Ajatsatru, which healed the sick King. The legend further states that the king returned from his expedition with news that Ajatsatru had healed him and began the practice of rubbing the body of the kings of the kingdom with herbs and oils to heal. This was also the time the time when the massage therapy term was coined.
