Dustin Kuo

Sr. Engineer
Hi, my name is Dustin Kuo. I am 39 years old and have had four jobs during my 15-year career. My first job was as an engineer at Lu.L International Co., Ltd., which was established in September 1998 as a professional design company for motor control IC and mechanical and electrical system integration. Designing motor drivers was an interesting experience for me, and I found the whole process of developing products with writing firmware code in MCU to be exciting. My second job was as an R&D engineer at a subsidiary of the iST group. I joined the team to develop LED LM-80 test equipment and design LED Tj measurement equipment. I was involved not only in the early stages of paper research but also in supporting machine assembly and troubleshooting. My third job was as a FW engineer in the PLDS EE department. In the first two years, I worked with 50 other engineers to develop and maintain optical storage devices, and then participated in the SSD project during the third year. When I turned 30, I wanted to experience something different, so I sold egg cakes (Taiwan traditional snacks) in a night market in Taichung. I learned a lot during that time, such as how to look for a good location to sell (marketing), develop my own recipe of cakes (R&D), promote and attract customers (sales), provide cakes with stable quality (production line), and keep daily accounting (finance). However, after some time, I realized that I am still good at and passionate about R&D. This experience also gave me a different perspective on each role in a company and how to meet customer expectations. Currently, I work for a company founded by the ex-supervisor of my second job. I am mainly responsible for tasks integration, such as software, firmware, and hardware, in order to develop a PC-based programmable multi-channel power source. For one ODM order, I provided a 1024 channel electrical stress in an HTOL system to the customer's QA department. I began with a concept of a block diagram followed by SPEC, drawing the schematic, simulating in each function partition, doing the layout guide and review. I also designed the CPLD and wrote testing software in C# to validate that the PCBA is working as expected. Sometimes, I also need to go on business trips to Malaysia and China for machine settling or issue-solving at customers' sites. After the outbreak of Covid-19, I continued to develop and maintain products in a situation of supply chain shortage and new customized orders from Sony and Lumentum. Last year, as an administrator in the EE department, I introduced the EVT/DVT/PVT SOP to make the team work more efficiently and established the department education program to help members improve their skills. Until now, I still always "stay hungry, stay foolish" for new knowledge, as Steve Jobs said. I hope that the experiences during my career will be valuable to your company.
