Ray left the UK in 1998, on completing his PhD at Cambridge and getting married, to start over and raise a family in Argentina. On arriving, he worked as an IB teacher in elite bilingual schools before soon ascending into senior management roles and driving success in international examinations. He has always been a teacher from his early career to the present moving from high school to university teaching over time. His areas of specialty include US history and politics and cultural studies. In a substantial and rewarding teaching career he has worked broadly in the humanities and social sciences enthusiastic about equipping young minds with the critical thinking required in times of rapid transformation. In private professional work Ray has extensive experience as a translator from Spanish to English and as a project manager working with a variety of languages. He has translated for news media, public relations officers, conference organisers and presenters in diverse educational and corporate contexts. He was the principal translator of Tenaris-Argentina for a project requiring the translation of their entire LMS global content, and led a hand-picked team working with a variety of European and Asian languages. In 2012 he founded his own company Clio Language Services SRL in Argentina which, while maintaining its core translation and localization business, has developed consultancy roles in language education. Clio has designed language curricula for national and provincial government ministries and departments, with a direct focus on language learning platforms. Ray embraces technological change and the challenges it brings and has led his company to enable educational providers to transition from in-person to online environments in the context of the 2020 Covid pandemic. Ray keeps on learning.

IBDP Economics and History Teacher

ISD is a young, ambitious, and rapidly growing K-12 international school in the city of Dongguan in southern China. Founded in 2012 it is an IB school teaching the diploma programme in Grades 11 and 12. Most of its graduating students continue their education in US and UK colleges and universities. Ray joined the team at ISD, returning to the IB classroom to teach Economics and History in 2021, enthusiastic about the challenges and opportunities China offers. His graduating students performed significantly higher than the global IBDP average in all subject areas.

Ray’s role was to enable the organization to transition from in-person to online environments in the context of the 2020 Covid pandemic. He ensured the teachers developed the ability to integrate the technology required for online learning into their professional skills portfolios. He was responsible for observing teachers in virtual environments and giving constructive feedback as well as modeling classes and strategies.
