The effects of azelastine hydrochloride (AH), a new anti-allergic drug, on mucociliary clearance were investigated in guinea pigs and in human subjects. AH inhalation did not affect the ciliary beat frequency of the ciliated mucous membrane of the trachea, but it slightly increased the frequency in the bronchi. AH inhalation inhibited actively the mucociliary movement in the bronchi more than in the trachea. Moreover, AH aerosol increased the mucociliary clearance by 37% in human subjects in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that AH is a useful anti-allergic drug, and a sufficient effect is expected when inhaled during asthmatic attacks. The present invention relates to an abrasive article and more specifically, to a semi-transparent abrasive article having a non-abrasive surface layer of an amorphous silica.
