Directed and co-produced by Prasoon Joshi, the movie was released on 27 February 2012. Produced by Sanyu Productions and Movie Studio, it is the sequel to the 1996 hit movie of the same name which starred Sanjay Dutt, Rakshanda Khan and Arshad Warsi. Plot Dhamaal 2 opens in 1984. The film begins with 13 year old Dhamaal (Arshad Warsi), who is shown to be happily popular with his father (Javed Jaffrey) and his brother Raghu (Ritesh Deshmukh), and trying to help his family get the house and also a job. Dhamaal then goes to the interview for the "Bhima-Jaat" contest, in which he is named the winner. The winning contestant gets a seven-year contract with the management of the government corporation that runs the Indian Railways. Dhamaal goes to his mother (Kangana Ranaut) and announces to her that he has won the contest and the management has given him the contract. However, she has not heard about it and Dhamaal had to explain the situation to her. Meanwhile, Dhamaal's neighbor and close friend, the train driver (Sanjay Dutt), is celebrating with his wife, Shyama (Pooja Hegde) and is drinking alcohol. The next day, Dhamaal goes to his father and asks about his sister, who is waiting at the railway station for him. The father replies that she has already left home without taking any belongings.
