emulekadserverlistSociety of Architectural Historians of Great Britain The Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain (SAHB) is an organisation for architectural historians in the United Kingdom, founded in 1936. It is the professional body for architectural historians in the United Kingdom and the Society's members are the body of architectural historians in the country. Objectives The Society's objectives are: To promote the study of architectural history and the preservation of the built heritage. To encourage and promote the study of design and construction and the architectural qualities of the environment. To encourage the proper documentation of our built heritage. To further the study of historical methods and the application of new techniques in the study of architectural history. To provide for the presentation of historical architecture to the public. To encourage and develop the practice of historical research in the field of architectural history. Membership The Society's membership is made up of architectural historians from all over the United Kingdom and many other countries. Awards The Society gives various awards for the achievements of architectural historians and the public of the built heritage, including: The Michael Lykiard Award for a book in architectural history by an individual or team. The prize is given in memory of Michael Lykiard, an architectural historian and expert on English vernacular architecture. The Sir John Summerson Award for an exhibition, school or institution of architecture, whose work is of outstanding significance in architectural history. The Berthold Lubetkin Award for a completed building in the United Kingdom which demonstrates innovative architectural techniques and contributes significantly to the understanding of building history. The Society awards an annual lecture to an architect of international standing. Organisation The Society is a registered company limited by guarantee, with six committee members elected annually to serve as its chairman, president, vice-president, general secretary, treasurer and recording secretary. The members are elected by ballot. The Society is a registered charity in England and Wales, No. 2763813. President's Lecture The Society invites architects to deliver the annual lecture, and, since 1946, the presidential lecture. Lectures are listed in the Society's journal Architectural History.
