Lloyd (album) Lloyd is the third album from British singer-songwriter Lloyd. It was released on 2 November 2016 through 4AD and Sire Records. Writing and recording Writing on the album started in 2015 and lasted until the end of 2016. It was recorded with producer John Congleton at his Radiophonic Workshop in March 2017. One of the early inspirations for the record was the sound of the garage punk band The Smiths, as guitarist Lloyd expressed: "I remember when that band first came out and. I wanted to go for a sound similar to that". The cover art and the album's title were designed by English artist Tom Egmer and are inspired by artists of the band Deafheaven, especially the album's artwork. The band collaborated with Egmer on the art direction of their 2015 album Sunbather, which had a similar aesthetic. Release The album was made available for pre-order on 8 July 2017. Promotion On 17 September, the album's lead single "Gone Now" was released for digital download. The accompanying music video was released on 17 October. On 2 November, the album was released as a digital download, and was released physically the following day. A music video for "Apology" was released on 8 December 2017. On 19 April 2018, a lyric video for "Good Times" was released. Reception The album received positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 80 based on 30 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews".
