  18. In 1937, Sava married Vanda Jakovljević, who had been his classmate at the Fine Arts Academy. The couple had three children: Boris (born 1938), Mirjana (born 1939), and Aleksandar (born 1943).   In 1939, while Sava was working in his studio, he met Đura Jakovljević (1898-1948), a Montenegrin sculptor, friend, and neighbor of his family. Together, the two artists formed the group of sculptors, painters, and poets known as the Permanent Group of Modern Artists (Glasnički Poretetak moderne umetnika). In the summer of 1943, Sava and his wife returned to Belgrade and settled in a small house near the Šumicev Most River. In May 1944, Sava and his family were arrested by the Partisans and taken to the Krunski Dvori in Zemun. During a three-week interrogation, the Sava family were subjected to extraordinary pressure and suffering, particularly for Sava, who was a Communist and had been held under suspicion of collaboration with the Yugoslav Royal Army and its former commander, General Milan Nedić. In May 1945, the family was arrested again and transferred to Glina concentration camp, which was a transit camp before the prisoners were deported to Germany. During the liberation of Belgrade in September 1945, Sava was among those who moved to Šuplj
