The fact that bump stocks are legal and readily available is precisely why they shouldn't be sold. The NRA is no friend of the Second Amendment. After all, the NRA was behind a bill that would have made it a federal crime for someone to use bump stocks. The NRA backed off on that bill, but it still represents the group's position that you should have to seek a special permit before buying an assault weapon. For someone like Gaetz, whose support for gun control is already razor-thin, making the call for their total ban is political suicide.
