I`m currently studying Lagune 2 as my first course (in Germany). This is a German book for learning how to read and write German. It does have a number of useful tools but not a lot of content. I have found the concept behind the book is sound and it is easy to learn. On the downside I found the layout and the vocabulary a bit confusing to read. The story starts with the reader introducing themselves and going through how to read the book. Then it goes through the alphabet and explains the letters. Then it starts with the pronunciation of words and introduces the alphabet again and then the sentence structure and then another pronunciation guide. Then follows some examples, new vocabulary and finally some reading exercises. If you want to use the book for school you will want to buy it and copy it into a word program (I use MS Word). Make sure you translate the numbers to lower case, otherwise it will be case sensitive when you input it into your word program. If you want to use the book as a reference book, you can probably skip to chapter 3. Another book I recommend is the Bengali book on LearnSpa.co.uk. This one covers the same things but is a bit simpler in vocabulary. If you do buy the Lagune book, don't get the English version. I have to say I have a particular dislike for the English version, but it is still useful. I would rather buy the German version and then translate it. Right, that's enough rambling from me.
