"We will not tolerate the actions of those who disregard their obligations." An advisory statement from the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party said the party was following the investigation, and if it was concluded that someone had broken the law, party members could not "turn a blind eye" to it. Former Borten County State Representative and Democratic State Senator Lora Runge will be allowed to keep her spot on the county's Democratic executive committee and on the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party's executive committee, a North Dakota Republican Party spokesman said Friday. A House panel had recommended Runge's removal from the state's Democratic Party, alleging that she had not followed state law on campaigning and fundraising. She had been the subject of two separate ethics investigations by the state attorney general, who had sought to remove her from the state's Democratic Party, and also was the subject of an investigation by the Borten County State Attorney's Office, which is investigating whether Runge had committed a crime. The panel decided that Runge, who has represented Borten County on the state's nonpartisan Joint Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules since 2004, had violated the North Dakota Open Records and Meetings Law by failing to disclose campaign contributions made on her behalf, and by not disclosing campaign contributions made on her behalf.
