Swarabitan Vol.1 is a biography of “Bhagat Singh” by Shrikant Phadke. Bhagat Singh Biography Bhagat Singh (भागत सिंह) was an Indian freedom fighter, anarchist, and socialist who was hanged in the Punjab region of British India (present-day India) in March 1931 for assassinating British Lieutenant-Colonel Walter E.S. Frere in London on January 13, 1931. Bhagat Singh played a leading role in the Indian independence movement, as well as in the movement of the 1960s which aimed to achieve a socialist state in India. Bhagat Singh is widely considered to be a national hero in India. Bhagat Singh Biography: Bhagat Singh (born Shivcharan Singh Pujari; 16 April 1907 – 13 March 1931) was a Punjabi Indian nationalist activist who was executed in March 1931 after being convicted of murder for his part in an attack on the British political headquarters at the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi. Bhagat Singh, along with two other revolutionaries, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru, was hanged for his part in the murder of British police officer John Saunders. He was a leader of the Ghadar Party and an activist in the Indian Independence Movement. Bhagat Singh was born to a working-class family in Darbhanga, Bihar state, British India. His father was an excise inspector who had lost his job because of a strike organised by a Ghadar Party. In early 1930, Bhagat Singh and his friends were exposed to a left-wing revolutionary ideology. Bhagat Singh joined the Ghadar Party and took up arms and participated in the organisation of underground training camps. He went to Europe in 1930 with the intention of joining the Ghadar Party and work underground as a part of the revolutionary underground movement. The organisation had been banned in India, but in Europe Bhagat Singh was able to travel freely. During this time, Bhagat Singh became involved with a movement for the independence of India from Great Britain. He became a revolutionary and anarchist, joining the struggle for independence through violent means. He became a prominent revolutionary and was considered a potential threat to the British Empire.
