Shweta is a traditional Indian housewife, loyal wife and mother. When her parents passed away, she had to go back to her home country to look after the children. She is a great cook, being the best of her parents. Sharman is Chaudhary Baldev Singh's American adopted son, having been brought up by Chaudhary Baldev Singh in India after the death of his parents. His birthplace is the USA, and his parents are dead. Sharman has come to India to spend some time with his father, to whom he is devoted and whose life he is determined to make worth living. He is a modern educated and independent person with a very jolly and likeable personality. Simran, Shweta, Sharman and their friend Chirag visit the hilltop of Kirthal and find a dilapidated house in the middle of the mountains. Inside the house, they find the body of Chaudhary Baldev Singh in an old armchair. No one around the house or village seems to know who the Chaudhary was, but Chirag knows who he is. Chirag tells Simran, Shweta, and Sharman what Chaudhary Baldev Singh has been doing in the USA, and how he has been studying with Chaudhary Baldev Singh all his life, and how Chaudhary Baldev Singh taught him the American ways and lifestyles. Sharman also learns that Chaudhary Baldev Singh had been giving Sharman a lot of money and had bought his airplane, as Sharman wanted. Chirag, who is an alcoholic and a drug addict, is still living with his wife and daughter in the dilapidated house. He is also very much attracted to Simran, and often tries to get closer to her. Simran, on the other hand, is deeply in love with Sharman, who is the perfect opposite of Chirag. All these lead to a few dramatic incidents in the story. At the end of the story, Sharman has found out that Chaudhary Baldev Singh was an elderly man who lived in an old, dilapidated house at the foot of the hill.
