Trader Joe's - The Best and Worst

United States
Trader Joe’s has earned an almost cult-like following thanks to its low prices, exotic offerings, and friendly tropical vibe. Loyal customers are willing to wait on check-out lines that snake around the store for the chance to score their must-grab items. But these same customers will be the first to admit that not every product is created equal. Here’s a look at some of the best of and worst Trader joe’s has to offer. Worst: Mango Chia Pudding with Cultured Coconut Cream – It’s labeled as “ideal for breakfast or dessert, with sweetness from mango and culture coconut cream”. What they don’t tell you is that the texture is unappealing and the taste is uninspiring. It’s just pudding overloaded with soggy chia seeds. Cornichons – These tasty little pickles make a great addition to any appetizer plate or sandwhich, but the Trader Joe’s version are a disaster. Instead of tasting pleasantly pickled and tart, they taste sour and acidic. The smell of vinegar was overwhelming when I opened my first jar. Who knows, maybe I just got a bad batch. But when it comes to food—once bitten twice shy. Avoid at all costs. Avocado Citrus Greek Yogurt – I get it. Avocados are a hot health food at the moment so companies are rushing to put them on everything. But did it really have to go in yogurt? The taste of avocado isn’t overwhelming, but that doesn’t change the fact that avocados and yogurt do not mix well. A for effort, but this combo is a miss. Organic Purple Maize Flakes – If you enjoy salty tortilla chips with bananas and milk, then this is the item for you. It was a valiant effort, but corn doesn’t belong in everything. Go back to lunch and dinner, and leave breakfast alone. Produce – Hate to generalize, but Trade Joe’s has some of the worst produce of any supermarket. It’s undersized, sickly looking, and if you don’t plan on eating it within 24 hours you shouldn’t bother buying it at all. Here today, moldy tomorrow. Best: Bananas – Bananas are packed with vitamins and nutrients and taste great. I know what you’re thinking. “Everyone has bananas for sale.” Well, does everyone sell them for 19 cents each? Gone Bananas – Speaking of bananas, these chocolate covered slices are Trader Joe’s best-selling frozen treat of all time. If that doesn’t convince you to give them a try, then you’re probably allergic. Chicken Tikka Masala – The dishes in the frozen-aisle can be hit or miss. Sometimes the final product looks and tastes nothing like the picture on the box. Avoid disappointment and go with this aisle favorite. It won’t let your taste buds down.
