Category:Computer programming booksEthereum and Bitcoin have been in a bit of a relationship. A lot of people think Bitcoin and Ethereum are in the same space, and indeed they are, but they also often look at each other and see something else entirely. People often compare cryptocurrencies to another famous currency with an attitude about digital cash: cash. Cash is not used very often for transactions, so it is used mostly for a few basic needs. People buy food, some clothing, and that’s it. This is mostly a very inefficient method of spending money, and Bitcoin and Ethereum are happy to be less efficient than cash. Cash – Good for Basic Needs In many parts of the world, cash is very common. In the US it’s very common, and it’s not that many places that don’t have it. You’re more likely to spend cash in your weekly grocery shopping than your monthly mortgage payment, and that’s kind of the nature of cash. Bitcoin – The Utility of Cryptocurrency Cryptocurrencies are quite useful, but for the most part, they’re useful in markets that don’t have a strong established infrastructure. For example, it’s easier to use cryptocurrency for things like file sharing, because it’s much easier to send files to someone, and also because file sharing is not quite as common as grocery shopping. And Ethereum is even better at being useful than Bitcoin, because it’s really useful for doing smart contracts. People who are watching this space closely might notice that many of the smart contract development efforts are actually on the Ethereum blockchain. There are still many areas of the world where cryptocurrency is not common, and in those places, people have a need to be able to move value around quickly, cheaply, and at a high degree
