Professional Who Brokered First RIN as a Fuel Credit

A broker in the energy and renewable fuel market, Ray Neuberger laid the foundation for his career by earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Fairfield University, where he achieved a 3.8 GPA. In 2007, Ray Neuberger worked as a refined products broker at GFI Group in Norwalk, Connecticut. Responding to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recently expanded Renewable Fuel Standard, he brokered a solution for clients in the blending and refining industry seeking to meet the new guidelines.

Ray Neuberger brokered the first Renewable Identification Number (RIN) as a credit for clients who required additional infrastructure to combine gasoline and ethanol following the new EPA standards. In the process, he helped to create a new market, the exchange of RIN credits. Additionally, he expanded the market by brokering biodiesel and ethanol credits in accordance with the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard.

After this position, Mr. Neuberger held the title of oil broker at First National Oil Brokers. Among his accomplishments in the role, he achieved more than 20 percent in increased revenues on a year-over-year basis between 2016 and 2018.
