Before assuming his current role as Founder and Executive Director of the Restore Us Institute (RUI), Scott Cleland held many roles. He previously worked as president of Precursor LLC. From 1999 to 2005, he served as founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Precursor Group Independent Research Broker Dealer, the #1 Institutional Investor-recognized communications independent research firm, serving 39 of the top 50 investment institutions in the United States. In this role, Scott Cleland testified in front of Congress regarding tech companies and served as the lead source and primary analyst for an Emmy Award-winning PBS Frontline Special. Before assuming these responsibilities, Scott Cleland worked with the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., first as a senior policy advisor and later as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Communications and Information Policy. Scott Cleland has received several awards over the course of his career. Institutional Investor magazine dubbed him "the de facto spokesperson for the independent research community," and he received the Superior Honor Award of the U.S. Department of State for his service with that organization.
