Hi! My name is Hsin-Yuan (Shawn) Chen. I was born and raised in Taiwan and am fluent in mandarin. I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree at National Chiayi University from 2009 to 2013, majoring in Biochemical Science and Technology. During my undergraduate years, I served as the Public Relations Director for the student government association. My main responsibility is to coordinate and organize events with other committees in promoting awareness regarding news, decisions and policies of the student council. Upon graduation, I obtained my Master’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the College of Medicine of National Taiwan University. During this time, I applied for the working holiday visa to Canada in hopes of broadening my horizon. Fortunately, I was able to receive the working holiday visa to Canada. I received a position to work as a room attendant and busboy in Banff, Alberta. It was a job that was outside of my original expertise. The view and the people I met during my stay provided me with memorable experiences and allowed me to realize that my previous idea way of life should not be limited to a single pattern.
Following my incredible journey in Canada, I returned back to Taiwan and left my original comfort zone. I moved into the field of network management and within a short period of time, I received my Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) credentials. Since then I have been employed as an engineer at Netfos Technology Corporation, a distributor of Arbor, Extreme, and Zscaler.
As the saying goes, “Carpe diem’’. I try to leave my comfort zones once again. I want to experience and improve my skill in foreign country. Luckily for me, I got the working holiday visa of New Zealand. Now, I look forward to the new challenges awaiting for me in New Zealand.
