As director of career development at the University of Michigan (UM) School of Public Health, Shelagh Saenz provides students and alumni with actionable insight when it comes to boosting professional prospects and effective job seeking. Excelling at program development and project management, Shelagh Saenz is certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor and works integrally with a diversity of people on campus in negotiating opportunities.
Ms. Saenz’ responsibilities extend to co-leading the campus subcommittee for career practitioners on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA). In 2016 she served on an Inclusion Awareness Committee for the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Her consistent efforts over the years have earned her the University of Michigan Distinguished Diversity Leaders Award, and she has also received University of Michigan Council for Disability Concerns recognition.
Ms. Saenz pursued her BA at Albion College in English and subsequently completed a master’s degree in guidance and counseling at Eastern Michigan University. In the late 1990s, Shelagh Saenz worked within the University of Michigan’s Office of the Vice President for Government Relations. She oversaw numerous outreach initiatives, while presenting to campus and state legislative staff on U of M’s community impact.
