Archdiocese of New York

Associate Superintendent for Leadership, 2014 - 2019

The Archdiocese of New York is one of the largest school systems including elementary and secondary schools covering the boroughs of the Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island and reaching north into Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Sullivan Counties. Steven Virgadamo provided direct oversight and formation to school leaders, and developed a strategic plan and a related culture of succession planning to replenish the overall Archdiocesan system with 12-15 new principals.

Steven Virgadamo was responsible for strategic fundraising direction, fiduciary oversight, resource planning and fundraising operations. Steven Virgadamo also developed a regionalized fundraising process in which he recruited, staffed and supervised a team to support seven regional offices in support of North American fundraising efforts.

Steven Virgadamo served as Vice President and the senior consultant on projects in more than 2000 educational institutions in 43 states. He developed and executed training programs for board members and development professionals in donor cultivation and solicitation skills. Steve also conducted major gift solicitations in partnership with board members and key administrators.

Steven Virgadamo worked collaboratively with key constituencies as a member of the senior leadership team to provide fund raising insight and strategic planning guidance. He supervised a staff of six development professionals, planned and implemented a giving campaign which generated $5 million annually, and managed a database of 30,000 active prospects.

Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools

Executive Director, 1982-1986


Steven Virgadamo established the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools (FACS), and innaugurated a $15 million endowment campaign. He designed and conducted an annual fund campaign to provide scholarship support for students attending inner city schools.

NCEA 2018 President’s Awards Recipients Announced

Steven Virgadamo, associate superintendent for leadership of the Archdiocese of New York, will be presented with the John F. Meyers Award. This award is bestowed upon an individual or organization that has provided substantial support for Catholic education in the areas of development, public relations, scholarship programs, financial management or government relations.


NCEA Honors Associate Superintendent for Leadership Formation

Steven Virgadamo, associate superintendent for leadership formation of the archdiocese, received the Msgr. John F. Meyers Award from the National Catholic Educational Association at the organization’s convention in April of 2018.
