Tracy Lee Simmons

A Writer Who Promotes Classical Education

Mr. Tracy Lee Simmons has written extensively about the timeless wisdom of the ancient Greeks and Romans. A published author, he has also served as associate editor for National Review. He has written for newspapers and magazines across the political spectrum, ranging from The New York Times and the Washington Post to The Weekly Standard and The American Enterprise.

Mr. Simmons championed the virtues of Greek and Roman culture and classical education in his book Climbing Parnassus: A New Apologia for Greek and Latin. In the book, he described classical literature as “a journey to the core of the human soul.”

For his work in this field, Mr. Simmons was given the 2005 Paideia Prize for Lifetime Achievement from the Circe Institute. More recently, he has presented a 5-week online course titled Laying Out the Good Life: A Stroll Through Aristotle’s Ethics.

Mr. Simmons’ other interests (history and religion) are demonstrated by reviews of books about Benjamin Franklin, Winston Churchill, James Madison, and Thomas Merton. He has also spoken at several charter schools and private academies.
