Avatar of Alexander Fast.

Alexander Fast

Chief Technology Officer
I have 7 years of optical systems engineering experience. I have developed solutions for different applications from concept to working prototype designing and sourcing complete systems including mechanical, optical, electronic and software components. Integrated deep learning image analysis to push boundaries of the hardware limitations in microscopy. Experience with human skin physiology, function, it's spectroscopic signatures and metabolic behavior.

Work experiences

Chief Technology Officer

InfraDerm

Oct 2020 ~ Present
Received a $263,000 SBIR phase I grant from the NIH/NIBIB for testing and validation of the technology I helped develop during my postdoctoral research. Lead research and development engineer. Built a second generation of FLAME imaging platform integrating novel and optimized solutions for volumetric imaging, optical fiber light delivery, pulse compression and fast attenuation.

T32 Postdoctoral Fellow

Beckman Laser Institute

Mar 2019 ~ Sep 2020
1 yr 7 mos
Designed and developed a clinical microscope platform for noninvasive human skin imaging. Integrated a novel approach to rapid functional imaging with molecular contrast. System packaged into a compact portable unit and optimized for skin imaging in a clinical setting. Main applications include pigmented lesion oncological diagnosis and monitoring, pigmentation disorders, inflammatory conditions as well many applications for clinical research.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Massachusetts General Hospital

Nov 2017 ~ Mar 2019
1 yr 5 mos
Designing advanced nonlinear microscopic tools for medical imaging. Secured a partnership with a fiber laser manufacturer and designed and built a coherent Raman microscope powered by the fiber source. Studied ex vivo human tissue with nonlinear optical microscopy and the response to topical drugs including quantifying delivery and understanding the pathway.

Graduate Student Researcher

UC Irvine

Oct 2012 ~ Aug 2017
4 yrs 11 mos
Developed a novel surface enhanced Coherent Raman microscopy technique. Demonstrated the sub diffraction limit axial sectioning with chemical contrast on simple gold coated coverslips. Wide field excitation with fast camera based detection applied to measuring cell membranes and protein dynamics.
