Trader/Foreign sales
Hello, HR/Department Heads! My name is Harry Hsiao. I was born in Changhua County in January 1990. There are five people in my family, including my parents, two younger sisters and me. My father works in the construction industry and my mother is a full-time homemaker. My two younger sisters work in Taipei and Taichung respectively. My family gets along very well. Education: I hold a bachelor’s degree with a major in Finance which was awarded to me by National Chung Cheng University. In addition to maintaining good academic performance, I actively participated in extracurricular activities during the university period. For instance, organizing Finance Summer Camp with my classmates as well as joining the basketball team of our department and our team have won two national championships in that period. The above-mentioned experiences equipped me with leadership and planning skills as well as strengthened my skills in interpersonal communication and crisis response. All these skills are helpful to my life path and work career afterwards. Last but not least, I successively obtained financial certificates such as Senior Securities Specialist and Securities Investment Trust and Consulting Professionals during my military service after graduating from college. Work experience: My first job was doing the import and export business related to letters of credit in Sumitomo-Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC)-Taipei Branch. During employment, I strived to learn the operating standards of Japanese companies, laws, and regulations in relation to letters of credit as well as the import and export trade flow. I can always build and maintain good relationships with customers, collaborate with my team members and complete the tasks assigned by my supervisor with high efficiency which made me an integral part of the department. The number of import and export transactions I was in charge of per month is 60-70 averagely. During the peak season, I could complete all the transactions on time and I could also complete my daily work efficiently even though being in a circumstance with high pressure and timeliness; on the other hand, I would follow my supervisor’s instruction to assist other departments during the off-season. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that one year after I entered the company I was honored to be voted as the vice chairman of the Welfare Committee by my colleagues. This experience enabled me to acquire the ability to integrate resources across departments and apply it to event planning. Speaking of my second job, I was working as a credit analyst(sales) at the business department of Grand Bills Finance Corp. and responsible for analyzing the customer’s financial statements and maintaining customer relationships. Even if I was only staying in this company for a short period, the valuable experience I gained from this job became the stepping stone which led me into the front-end business. Lastly, I would like to talk about my third job which is the current job. I joined the sales department of Simosa Oil CO., LTD. in June 2018. Simosa Oil CO., LTD. is the only private bitumen manufacturer (refinery) in Taiwan and the only exporter of bitumen in Taiwan. In addition, our company also produces and sells liquid carbon dioxide domestically. Because of having work experience regarding import and export, I was responsible for the back-end processing of the shipments as an export sales assistant (OP) in the beginning. My job responsibilities included import and export affairs, document preparation, internal and external communication between the company and the refinery, and foreign customer contact. Moreover, I’ve become more familiar with the petrochemical industry as well as the knowledge of business and sales thanks to my supervisor and senior colleagues. Holding a bitumen seminar with my team in Vietnam also benefited me a lot. Two years after joining the company, I transferred to the position of foreign sales and started working on more about transactions. I worked hard to expand my networks and to have direct contact or cold calling with major oil refineries, traders, and shipping companies. Knowing more about internal process and product knowledge made my negotiation with foreign customers smoother, thereby expanding the scope of business and increasing import and export channels. I also went on business trips to Singapore twice after the Covid-19 epidemic eased. During the trips, the intensive meetings and meals not only help me establish a new network of contacts, but also help maintain existing customer relationships to ensure the smooth progress of the annual contract. Because I always have to adapt to changes timely in this job, I have grown fast in these four and a half years. Currently I’m proficient in contract review, negotiation, appeasing the customers to make the deals done and researching into key information or obtaining it through personal connections in order to make corresponding decisions. Furthermore, I can also introduce my company and products with ease when meeting customers for the first time and then establish good interactive relationships with them. Therefore, I believe one of the key skills to be a foreign sales is interpersonal communication. We must learn how to get along with people from different cultural backgrounds and how to make them feel warm and comfortable during conversations. And when the supervisor disagrees with other departments or customers, I will be in a timely manner to communicate and coordinate between the two sides to reach a consensus. In this job, I fully demonstrate the ability of information consolidation, report analysis, resource integration, customer visits and conferences arrangements; hence, I maintain a good relationship with customers as well as various departments in my company. All the experiences in my life and work have taught me a lot. In the eyes of my friends and colleagues, I am warm-hearted, kind, hard-working and smart. Also, I am a fast learner and always willing to help people solve problems. It will be a great honor for me to join your company and work with you! Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Harry Hsiao
