Cheng, Yu-Chuan
Dreamer & Actor
I am an outgoing and curious person who is willing to step out of my comfort zone and always exploring the world. When I work with people from different backgrounds, those boundaries set by ages, cultures, social characters, etc., are easily broke down due to my talkative personality. Since I have dabbled in different fields, I have expertise in finance and urban & rural planning. Besides, I am a fast and flexible learner that can sort out problems and its causes quickly.
In my education progress and life career, I am an interdisciplinary learner and practitioner due to my curiosity to try out different domains. I got a master degree in space planning and have a bachelor degree majored in finance and minored in sociology. Besides, I had been an exchange student in Finland to study corporate sustainability, urban planning and global political and economic relations. For international activities and public affairs, I volunteered to provide education service for children who lives in the remote countryside of Shaanxi province in China and attended the cross-strait culture exchange activities to introduce Taiwanese culture to Chinese students. And also in my university I received international students of my university to help them getting used to the living environment of Taiwan.
On the other hand, I have gained lots of experience in both private and public sectors. I am now a project manger in Taiwan Design Research Institute who build a project timeline to ensure everything is on schedule. In this postion I learn to be a good coordinator to communicate with clients efficiently and manage to grasp the domain knowledge in interface design fields. Also I was a placemaking planner in a community interest company before that. Not only do I conduct the site analysis survey but also plan community activities to help operate our dinning space. Also I had worked as an operating intern in Uber and was responsible for its marketing strategy and customer service which satisfied thousands of customers’ needs. In public sectors, I am a committee of Taichung City Government Youth Council who is responsible for supervising the governance and providing policy advice. Moreover, I chose to be a fireman as an option to fulfill my substitution military service. During the service time, I obtained an emergency medical technician license and put what I had learned into hundreds of emergency ambulance service, suicide rescues, and honeycombs removal and snakes captures. Besides from those jobs, I attempt to have my interest combine with work. Since I am extremely fond of outdoor activities, I used to be a baseball ball boy to assist the competition process.
To sum up, in this diverse society I have aggressively built up my language ability as a result of realizing the importance of multi-expertise. Not only English but also basic Spanish and Swedish are my communication tools in the international occasions. At the same time, I also learn the design of front-end and back-end web pages, the using of database and the application of bid data analysis. Through getting to know more different fields of expertise and learning how to use different tools, I encourage myself to be a generalist who serve as the communication channels for different fields of expertise and strive for resolving the interdisciplinary communication barriers.
