Dr. Joshua “Josh” Estep currently leverages his MD as a hospitalist with the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital, a critical access hospital with 25 beds located in Newport, Oregon. Before his current position in Newport, Joshua “Josh” Estep, MD, served as a resident physician for 3 years with the AU-UGA Medical Partnership, working with patients both in inpatient and outpatient settings. Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Joshua “Josh” Estep is also an accomplished researcher with a particular interest in prion disease research. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Zabel Laboratory within the Prion Research Center at Colorado State University. During his post-doctoral work, he performed research on prion diseases, including helping to develop a test that was able to detect infection and brain damage before the onset of symptoms. He presented these findings, “Serum GFAP as a predictor of prion-related neurodegeneration,” at the Prion conference in 2017, located in Edinburgh. When not engaged in professional pursuits, Josh Estep, MD, enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking, and traveling. He particularly enjoys exploring the Appalachian Trail.
