Everyone knows that their cars need regular maintenance, yet vehicle owners often forget about even the simplest tasks. They might think that as long as their vehicles can start and drive from point A to point B, they don’t have anything to worry about. On the contrary, plenty of horrible things can happen if you don’t take care of your car. Here are just a few of the worst-case scenarios. If you Don’t Change Your Oil… Modern vehicles can go a lot longer than older cars without needing an oil change, but you will still need to change your oil regularly. If you forget to do this, your engine will lose power and eventually die. This will either leave you stranded somewhere, require a costly repair, or both. Check your vehicle’s manual to know how often your oil should be changed. If You Don’t Flush Your Transmission Fluid… If you wait too long to flush your transmission fluid, most mechanics will tell you to forget about flushing it ever again. Modern automatic transmissions are complicated, and waiting too long for a transmission fluid flush will most likely mean a new transmission in your near future. If You Keep Your Old Air Filter… Changing your air filter isn’t as crucial as changing your oil or flushing your transmission fluid, but it still should be done if you want your car to run smoothly. Not changing your air filter will cause your engine to run rough and be generally inefficient. Your gas mileage will suffer, so you’ll find yourself spending more money to keep a full tank. If You Don’t Check Your Brakes Regularly… If you neglect to service your brakes, your brake pads will wear out, and your brakes won’t work as well as they should. You will hear a grinding or squealing sound whenever you press your brake pedal, and you will have trouble stopping. Eventually, your brakes will stop working altogether, which is possibly the worst thing that can happen on the highway. These are just a few of the worst-case scenarios that you will face if you neglect your vehicle for long. Fortunately, they are also very routine checks that your mechanic will check if you bring your car in for service. As much as you might not like the repair bill that comes with a regular car checkup, it’s nothing compared to what you will face if you let these basic maintenance tasks go for too long.
