Formerly the principal of Eisenhut Elementary School and Josephine Chrysler Elementary in the Stanislaus Union School District, Steve Betando serves as the superintendent of the Morgan Hill Unified School District (MHUSD) in the southern are of Santa Clara County in Northern California. Among other responsibilities, he develops objectives and long-term plans for the board of education and liaises with schools throughout the MHUSD and other districts, postsecondary educational institutions, and education departments at the county, state, and federal levels. Furthermore, Steve Betando makes business- and instructional-related recommendations to the board while ensuring MHUSD schools’ compliance with various laws and policies. In addition to functioning as an educational administrator, Mr. Betando provides consultation for leadership development and strategic planning. In this capacity, he trains teams of bargaining professionals in interest-based bargaining. Steve Betando’s administrative and consultancy roles were preceded by early experience in teaching positions at such schools as Windmill Springs Elementary in California’s Franklin-McKinley School District. During this time, Mr. Betando created a conflict-management program that trained students who demonstrated bullying behavior in conflict resolution and leadership. The program was featured on an episode of ABC’s 20/20.
