In both of these conditions, it is important to diagnose the severity of the lung disease early and provide treatment. This can be very difficult as symptoms of both of these diseases overlap. An accurate way to distinguish the problem is by measuring lung sounds. Lung sounds are the vibrations and sounds produced by the movement of air as it passes through the lungs. There are many different ways to record the sounds. Auscultation (listening to the sounds produced by the lungs) is the most common way. The sounds are listened to by a doctor or a trained paramedic to help diagnose the severity of the lung disease. A lung function test (a spirometry test) is a good indicator of lung function and can help diagnose the severity of a lung disease. Lung sounds can be recorded using various techniques and equipment such as a stethoscope, a specialized microphone, a spirometer and a computer. It is very difficult to use a stethoscope to record lung sounds as it is very difficult to find the exact place on the lung where the sound is coming from. This makes lung sound recording difficult and inconvenient. Lung sound recordings using microphones and computer algorithms have made it easier. The recordings can be analysed using a specialized algorithm to distinguish the sounds and record their frequency and amplitude.
